Litho Development and ResearchIndigo Digital Printing PressesFeaturing Digital Offset Color |
Throughout the 500-year history of printing, the common element in virtually all printing processes has been the use of liquid ink. Liquid ink printed images are of high resolution and brilliant color. Indigo's unique electronic printing process, called Digital Offset Color, combines high performance digital imaging technology with a liquid ink offset printing press, merging the benefits of on-demand electronic printing with the qualities of offset printing.
This means that for the first time in the history of printing it is economically feasible to produce glossy, high-quality printing in runs as short as a single copy. With the trend in modern marketing toward increasingly targeted promotion, a key application is for literature which can be mass produced, yet individually personalized. Indigo's technology makes this a commerical reality.
Indigo's family of digital presses combines high performance digital imaging technology with an offset printing process to electronically achieve the brilliant glossy color image quality that is unique to offset-Digital Offset Color. Only Indigo delivers Digital Offset Color, at the highest speeds, highest quality, and lowest cost per page. Only Indigo offers ElectroInk -- a true color liquid ink based digital printing -- on practically any substrate. Indigo's digital presses can create full-color, uniquely personalized or target products that incorporate variable data text and images, based on database profiles, automatically composed and printed -- in real time. Indigo's product line for commercial printing applications offers each customer the product best suited to his or her applications, print volumes, and capital expense preference, all at the same high quality. Being sheet-fed, Indigo's presses for commercial printign also provide the greatest speed and versatility in changing stocks from one job to the next, an important benefit for short-run and on-demand printing applications. Indigo's products also enable digital printing for industrial applications such as packaging and plastic cards.

Like conventional offset printing, Digital Offset Color printing transfers a liquid image from the imaging surface to a printing blanket, and from the printing blanket to paper. However, unlike conventional offset printing, Digital Offset Color printing creates a new ink image with each impression and, due to the unique qualities of Indigo's proprietary ElectronInk, it leaves no residual ink on the blanket.
ElectroInk is one of Indigo's key technologies. It is a liquid ink that can be electrostatically charged to produce high resolution and high quality color images. Unlike xerographic toners, ElectroInk provides a density and richness of color directly comparable to offset print. To further extend the color range achievable with Digital Offset Color, Indigo has developed the IndiChrome wide gamut printing system.
Indigo presses print on the widest range of substrates from coated and uncoated paper to transparencies and label stock. The number of Indigo-optimized subsrates from major manufacturers continues to grow through our partnerships with many industry leaders.
The Indigo e-Print Pro, TurboStream, and UltraStream digital presses are being marketed to pre-press trade shops, commercial printers, copy shops, and service bureaus for applications such as brochures, mailers, business cards, business forms, newsletters, greeting cards, and other printed products.
The Omnius One-Shot Color Printing Press, and the Omnius WebStream, are aimed at the flexible packaging and label markets. The Omnius CardPress is designed for plastic card printing.

Our electronic prepress solutions include front-end workstations, OPI file servers, and prepress and pre-flight software, as well as scanners, copy dot scanners, imagesetters (such as those by ECRM, Monotype, and Screen, and Purup-Escofot), platesetters, computer-to-plate systems, proofing and wide-format plotters such as the Epson Stylus Pro 9000, and film processors. We provide service on our electronic prepress equipment, and prepress training.
Other of our electronic prepress solutions -- hardware and software -- include Fusion DFE digital workflow solution (PostScript imaging out to proofers, plotters, platesetters, and imagesetters), Xinet FullPress OPI workflow, file sharing, cross platform communications, Harlequin ICC profile processor and full color maanagement (HFCS) and Scriptworks RIP system; Also Flashnet and Webnative for backups across the network, various SGI (silicon graphics inc) server configurations including DLT jukeboxes, RAIDs, switches, battery and UPS backup systems. Various Screen boxes (filmsetters and film image plate setters). Now that's electronic prepress for you! Professional, commercial duty.
Computer to plate means that your computer to plate digital computer to plate files transfer directly to computer-to-plate aluminum plate at 2400 dpi or more or less (depending on the computer to plate CTP equipment you use). Computer to plate means you get to computer to plate press faster. You don't need to use non (CTP) computer to plate cameras nor non computer-to-plate (CTP) stripping work.
Direct-to-plate printing, also known as computer-to-plate printing, cuts out one of the steps involved in traditional printing. Traditional printing, aka offset lithography printing, produces film on an imagesetter. A metal plate (imagesetting plate) is made from that film.
It means no longer waiting for non computer to plate film in order to see computer to plate proofs. With computer to plate (CTP) technology, your computer-to-plate edits, computer-to-plate updates, (CTP) computer-to-plate reprints are effected with ease and speed compare to non computer to plate technology and non computer to plate processes as are the norm in pre computer to plate days and pre computer to plate converted printing shops. Computer to plate means computer to plate speed, CTP cost effectiveness and computer-to-plate accuracy. What are you waiting for? Get computer to plate technology now.
