Introduction

Known for exceptional rigidity and advanced engineering, Shinohara presses have become synonymous with high quality and long-term performance. The cornerstone 52II (single-side) and 52IIP (perfecting), like all Shinohara presses, are built on solid cores cast in the company's own in-house foundry. Each subsystem has also been thoroughly refined over many years, resulting in the high precision presses available today. Never content to rest on its laurels, Shinohara continues to make headway in automation, continually thereby increasing operator effeciency. The 52 2-color series presses offer even more flexibility, so you can do more than ever before. The purchase of a 52 2-color series offset press guarantees you more than a proven long-term investment -- it also brings you an experienced and dynamic partner.

The 52 two-color presses offer precision, automation, and flexibility. In printing, everything begins with precision. Sturdy components, advanced manufacturing, and a unique in-house foundry have given Shinohara a reputation for extraordinary precision. What is more, today runs are shorter, changeover is more demanding. In response, the Shinohara 52 two-color series' high level of automation help to increase cycle time, reduce workload, and boost productivity. The 52II and 52IIP accept large sheets, and are loaded with optional features, allowing you a range of services to your customers. Expand business to include postcards, numbering, imprinting, and more.

The maximum sheet size and printing area of the 52 two-color series presses have been increased to 14-9/16" x 20-15/32" (370mm x 520mm) and 14-11/64" x 20-5/64" (360mm x 510mm) respectively. The minimum sheet size mode in A6-type postcard, and stocks of thicknesses from 0.002" to 0.016" can be run at rates of up to 12,000 IPH. This wide range of paper sizes and thicknesses means greater throughput and increased business opportunities.

Highlights

Delivery System

The sheet decurler, static eliminator, and spray powder device pamper printed sheets. For additional assurance, the faulty-delivered sheet detector watches for poor deliveries. Spray timing can be adjusted to minimize waste of spray powder.

Feeder System

Shinohara's center-separation stream feeder offers high reliability and tremendous adaptability. A preloading feeder pile and optional integrated brush/wheel adjustment contribute to a high rate of throughput in the 52 two-color series. Feeder timing can be microadjusted, even during operation, by simply turning a hand wheel, so operators can instantly adapt to changes in paper quality and thickness.

Cylinder System

Bearer-to-bearer contact between the plate cylinder and the blanket cylinder assures stability, limiting shock marks on the printed sheet. There are a host of cylinder system options to choose from, including an operator-side cocking adjustment knob that allows precise on-the-fly diagonal cocking adjustment of the plate cylinder. An optional semi-automatic plate changer (SPC) simplifies precise plate changeover operations.

Register Systems

Two distinct double-sheet detectors (one electric and one mechanical) ensure reliable feeding of a wide range of stocks. Skewed and overrun sheet detectors also come standard with each press. The pull side guide makes postcard and other small sheet printing easy.

Inking and Dampening Systems

A patent pending random-slide oscillation system optimally mills and distributes ink through the 19-roller system. The dampening system refrigeration and circulation device, with an alcohol level controller can be equipped with an optional fountain solution mixing device to further ensure consistent printing. Both inking and dampening fountain rollers can be controlled from the POD control screen without interrupting operations. Ghosting reduction ink form rollers are optionally available.

Advanced Perfecting System

The 52 two-color series uses a double-diameter transfer cylinder in combination with a single-diameter turnover drum. For outstanding stability, both components are cast as single bodies in Shinohara's own foundry. Precision is further ensured by a patented master/subgripper system that makes trouble-free sheet transfer possible at high speeds. Shinohara's international perfecting patents allow it to achieve a level of perfecting quality that other companies cannot match.

A Variety of Special-Purpose Print Options

A unique multipurpose swing-away unit is optionally available for special printing requirements, including numbering, 3rd-color relief imprinting, and cross perforation. A radial perforator with four heads that works against the impression cylinder is also available. In addition, the 52 two-color series supports an automatic tab inserter.

Easy Postcard Printing

For postcard printing, pull side guides can be moved to the center of the feed board and register plate. On the delivery end, a special postcard attachment can be installed or removed in just seconds. Because setup is routine, and it is not necessary to adjust the speed of the feeder belts when printing small sheets -- the postcard makeready is fast. Throughput remains high.

Shinohara Machinery Corporation, shinohara sheet-fed offset color presses

Shinohara produces quality, commercial duty, professional sheetfed offset color printing presses for the printing and graphic arts industry. As of year 2000, the company Shinohara has been in business for over 80 years. Shinohara is located in Japan and has produced many varieties of sheetfed offset printing presses that offer superb print quality, low maintenance, and fast makereadies. Heidelberg printing presses and Komori sheet-fed offset color printing presses have nothing over the Shinohara line of presses.

In the market for a digital offset sheetfed color printing press? Compare Shinohara to Heidelberg digital sheetfed presses and Komori offset color presses. Shinohara offers the simplest most cost effective solution to go from digital prepress to on-press color makeready. Here's the lifecycle in a nutshell: Prepress Production software on say a Macintosh computer, via Network 100 BaseT ethernet LAN, to a CIP3 (committee for prepress, press, and postpress) converter, which can be a Windows NT Shinohara CIP3 Station, to a Shinohara printing control console, to a Shinohara model 52, 66, 74, or 104 color printing press. Now compare this prepress to press to postpress process to that of a Heidelberg. Heidelberg is more complex. It goes from a prepress production software over a Network 100 BaseT ethernet connection to a CPC32 converter, then to a CPC51 converter, then to a printing control console, then to a Heidelberg printing press. Komori's digital prepress to press to postpress process is the msot complex of all. It goes from a prepress production software system over the 100 BaseT ethernet line to a CIP3 converter on a Windows NT or 95 or 98 system, to a Macintosh (!) which writes to a magnetic card writer, then via the magnetic card to a printing control console, finally to the Komori printing press. Whew! complicated digital press lifecycle.

CIP3: prepress, press, postpress

Shinohara's line of color printing presses are CIP3 compliant. CIP3 (committee or cooperation for prepress, press, and postpress) is a growing initiative in the printing and prepress industry over the last couple years to combine the process of press, prepress and postpress and thereby streamline print production. This combination of functions is a giant step forward toward integrating the manufactury of printing materials (read books, pamphlets, leaflets, flyers, catalogs, you name it) by computers. Aka computer integrated manufacturing (CIM). Thus the digital, because computers are digital systems. So you could also say digital integrated manufacturing of printed material. The Fraunhofer Institute for computer Graphics in Western Germany, together with several press makers (including Heidelberg) is responsible for creating CIP3. CIP3's base technology is print production format (PPF), whereby related printing information or data is shared acrosss processes and systems. CIP3 PPF for long.:w

Model 52 II and 52IIP Offset Color Printing Presses

Model 52 II is a two-color sheet-fed offset color printing presses. "52" because it supports 370 x 520 mm sheets. That's 520 or 52x10 mm of wider stock range. The maximum sheet size and printing area of the 52 two-color series have been increased to 370mm x 520 mm (14-9/16" x 20-15/32") and 360mm x 510mm (14-11/64"x20-5/64"). The minimum sheet size in single-sided mode (II) is A6-type postcard -- just 100mm x 148mm (3-15/16" x 5-53/64"), and stocks of thicknesses from 0.04mm to 0.4mm (0.0002" to 0.016") can be run at rates of up to 12,000 IPH. This wide range of paper sizes and thicknesses for the 52II and 52IIP sheetfed press means greater throughput and increased business opportunities for printing companies and printing subdepartments. The "P" in 52IIP stands for reverse out or duplex or double-side or two-side printing of the offset press.

Standard features of the Shinohara model 52 II and IIP two-color printing presses include preloading feeder pile, mechanical double-sheet detector, electronic double-sheet detector, feeder timing microadjustment, skewed-sheet detector, overrun sheet detector, remote ink fountain roller sweep adjustment, split ink fountain blade, continuous dampening system, remote dampening roller speed control, dampening solution refrigeration and circulation device, automatic alcohol supply system, operator-side impression adjustment dial, sheet decurler, delivery static eliminator, spray powder device, faulty delivered sheet detector, ani-marking system (star wheel), and POD touchscreen.

Optional features include side guide detector, anti-static blower on feeder head, integrated brush and wheel adjustment, dampening fountain solution mixing device, ceramic dampening fountain roller, ghosting reduction form rollers, hickey picker blade, Shinohara semi-automatic plate changer (SPC), plate cylinder cocking system, quick plate clamp system, register pin system, automatic blanker washup system, anti-marking system on the no. 2 impression cylinder of the 52IIP, non-stop delivery, radial perforating device, tab inserter, anti-marking system (super blue or ICP), swing-away unit (imprinting and numbering).

In printing, everything begins with precision. Sturdy components, advanced manufacturing, and a unique foundry have given Shinohara sheetfed model 52 offset color printing presses a reputation for extraordinary precision. Heidelberg or Komori printing presses have nothing over the 52 two-color press.

Today, runs are shorter, changeover more frequent, and customers more demanding. In response, Shinohara 52 2-color series' high level of automation helps to increase printing press cycle time, reduce offset workload, and boost color printing productivity.

The Shinohara 52II (2 color single-sided) and 52 IIP (2 color duplex, or double-sided, or reverse out, or perfector) accept large sheets, and are loaded with optional features (see above), allowing print shops, printing departments, at for instance colleges or univerisities, or commercial shops, a wider range of services for your sheet-fed demanding customers.
